Rumor: Ivory Coast’s Gbagbo has surrendered to U.N. forces

The headline:  Ivory Coast’s Gbagbo cornered, but reports of surrender mixed

The summary:  The former president of the Ivory Coast, Laurent Gbagbo, has reportedly surrendered to French and United Nations forces after he refused to surrender power following the election of new president Alassane Ouattara.

The reaction:  Yet another egomaniac in power.  This guy’s actions have resulted in countless lives being lost in a senseless bloodshed because he refuses to accept the results of a democratically held election.  Gbagbo clearly has his supporters who were willing to defend him violently if necessary but this whole situation never had the potential of ending well.

It appears that he’s cornered now but wants U.N. protection before vacating immediately.  Gbagbo’s already cost people their lives.  I say throw him out in the street and let him fend for himself.
