Defense rests in Barry Bonds perjury trial

The headline:  Charge dropped in Barry Bonds case

The link:  http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6300104

The summary:  The defense has rested without calling a single witness in the Barry Bonds perjury trial.  One charge was thrown out but four others remain.

The reaction:  Bonds has become the poster boy for steroid use in baseball.  The issue of whether or not Bonds took steroids is not in question here (Bonds himself admitted to taking known steroids).  The question is whether or not he’s being truthful when he claimed that he didn’t know they were steroids (he says his trainer told them they were legal supplements).

I have a real hard time believing Bonds didn’t know what he was doing.  Look at his physical size early in his career and compare it to when he retired.  Did he think that growth all came from “legal supplements”?  Did he think all the steroid side effects came from “legal supplements” too?  I don’t know if he’ll be convicted but if there is a more obvious case of known steroid use I haven’t seen it.
