Update: Japan power plant says that major leak has been stopped

The headline:  Highly radioactive water from power plant no longer gushing into sea

The summary:  The Tokyo Electric Power Company claims that radioactive water from its No. 2 reactor is no longer gushing into the sea.  As of Wednesday, they say there are no known major radioactive emissions into the air, water or land although they acknowledge that minor leaks may occur currently or in the future.

The reaction:  This is probably the best news coming out of this saga since it began.  If they’ve truly contained this leak, this could be the first real indication that the plant is beginning to come back under control.

On the flip side, it’s silly to think that we’re at the end of this situation.  There could be current or future leaks and we still have to deal with the fallout from all the radiation that’s already leaked into the environment.  This is a big step in the right direction though.  I’m hopeful.
