No budget deal yet as government shutdown deadline looms

The headline:  Obama, lawmakers cite progress in budget talks, hope to avoid shutdown

The summary:  Democrats and Republicans have not yet come to a budget resolution as the end of the week deadline approaches to avoid a government shutdown.

The reaction:  It seems more and more like this is going to come right down to the wire before coming to an eventual agreement to avoid a government shutdown (even if it’s just a temporary one).  Both sides claim that progress has been made and they’ve come closer to an agreement in the last several hours.

Both sides really need to make this happen to avoid the proverbial egg of the face.  I continue to believe that they’ll come to some sort of agreement by Friday.
