U.N. gives Gbagbo ultimatum to leave

The headline:  U.N. chief urges Ivory Coast’s Gbagbo to take ‘last chance’ to leave

The summary:  The former president of the Ivory Coast, Laurent Gbagbo, who has been steadfastly refusing to give up power has been given an ultimatum by U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to leave his estate peacefully or be forced out.

The reaction:  This comes as a mild surprise as reports had indicated that Gbagbo was ready to surrender.  Strongmen like Gbagbo usually don’t go quietly though so his actions have to be at least somewhat expected.

The question will be whether or not U.N. forces are willing to force their way into the home to grab Gbagbo out at the risk of more lives.  Enough blood has already been shed and I doubt they want to see any more.
