Libya’s Gadhafi agrees to cease-fire

The headline:  Statement: Gadhafi OKs plan to end fighting; AU meets with opposition

The summary:  Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has agreed to a cease-fire ending the fighting in the country.  He will also allow peacekeepers to enter Libya to maintain order.

The reaction:  Good news finally in Libya!  Ghadafi, like Ivory Coast’s Laurent Gbagbo, is someone who has long used strongarm tactics to gain power in his country.  The recent fighting has really marred the national landscape and it’s wholly appropriate that peacekeepers will be allowed to enter to help end the fighting.

Gadhafi’s future and his position as national leader remains uncertain.
