Olympian Carl Lewis to run for New Jersey Senate

The headline:  Carl Lewis to launch political career

The link:  http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/trackandfield/news/story?id=6328041

The summary:  Former Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis announces that he intends to run for the New Jersey State Senate.

The reaction:  I really have no idea what Lewis’ political beliefs are the report indicates that he plans on running as a democrat and challenging incumbent Republican Dawn Addiego for the seat in New Jersey’s 8th legislative district.

He joins a long list of former athletes who have transitioned from the athletic field to the political arena.  Some have been highly successful while others have barely made a ripple.  Again, I have no idea what kind of politican Lewis is but we’ll find out soon.
