Oprah finale netting $1 million for 30 second commercial

The headline:  30-second spots on Oprah finale fetching $1M

The summary:  CBS is seeking $1 million for a 30 second advertising spot during the May finale of the Oprah Winfrey Show.

The reaction:  The Super Bowl charges about $2.5 million and the Academy Awards nets about $1.7 million for a similar length commercial but those programs also deliver in the tens of millions of viewers if not more.  Oprah averages about 7 million viewers an episode so this can be seen as a bit of an expensive proposition.

I’m sure Oprah will see many more viewers than that during the finale but I’m not sure we’ve ever seen that kind of price tag for a daytime talk show.
