The headline:  Man found crucified in empty stone quarry; vic in Biblical slay wearing crown of thorns

The summary:  A man was found crucified in a quarry near Seoul, South Korea in a scene that mimics almost down to the last detail the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The reaction:  Apparently, this person did this to themselves!  His friends said he had extreme religious views and all the tools needed to carry out this were found at his feet.

I’m certain he was trying to replicate the suffering of Christ but this is an awfully extreme way of sending a message to people.

Police block Easter church service in Bejing

The headline:  Church: Police block Beijing Easter service

The link:  http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/04/24/china.easter.crackdown/index.html?hpt=T2

The summary:  Police have reportedly prevented an Easter service from taking place at the Shouwang Church in Bejing, China.

The reaction:  This story is a good reminder that the freedoms we enjoy in the United States aren’t free everywhere.

The fact that churchgoers have been arrested and detained at their homes shows that the Chinese government isn’t really big on freedom of religion (or a lot of freedoms for that matter).  Enjoy your Easter today and be thankful for everything you have!

Cambridge professor: Last Supper took place a day earlier than thought

The headline:  Last Supper was a day earlier, scientist claims

The link:  http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20110418/wl_uk_afp/britainreligionchristianseaster

The summary:  The research of a professor at Cambridge University has concluded that the Last Supper took place one day earlier than what has commonly been believed due to a calendar mixup.

The reaction:  The professor claims that a difference in the calendars used at the time is the likely culprit and is using his findings to push for a fixed Easter date in the future.

It’s an interesting and very explainable finding although I don’t think he’ll ever have much luck in getting Easter tied to a fixed date.

New film claims that Jesus’ crucifixion nails have been found

The headline:  Jesus crucifixion nails ‘found’

The link:  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/israel/8445464/Jesus-crucifixion-nails-found.html

The summary:  A film director in his new film claims that he has found the nails that were used in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

The reaction:  I don’t know how this can be anything more than a publicity stunt.  Even if you do have the nails, how in the world can you prove they are what they are?  You can’t do DNA testing.  You can’t really verify historical documentation.

Every once in a while someone comes along claiming they found Noah’s Ark or they found Jesus’ tomb.  I think this is another of those instances.
