The summary:  A woman is being charged with the attempted murder of her former roommate after she put antifreeze into her roommate’s smoothie.

The reaction:  This woman is a real piece of work.  She developed this whole plan to gain power of attorney over this guy’s accounts, drain his bank accounts and then kill him.

Yeah, I have a feeling that she’s going to be spending some time in the klink.

The headline:  Motorcyclist in helmet protest ride hits head, dies

The link:  http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2011-07-04-motorcycle-helmet-protest-death_n.htm?csp=hf&loc=interstitialskip

The summary:  A motorcyclist riding in an anti-helmet protest ride died over the weekend after he lost control of his bike, went over the handlebars and hit his head on the pavement.  Police said he likely would have survived had he been wearing a helmet.

The reaction:  I suppose this little incident kind of defeats the whole purpose of an anti-helmet ride.

I’ve never understood why people continue to push so hard for not wearing a helmet.  I’m guessing it’s a freedom thing or a “I can do what I want” thing as opposed to anything that has to do with safety.  Well, this guy insisted on maintaining his “freedom” and he paid the price for it.

I wouldn’t anticipate another anti-helmet ride any time soon.

Charlie Sheen admits to steroid use during filming of Major League

The headline:  Charlie Sheen Reveals Steroid Use For ‘Major League’ Role

The link: http://movies.yahoo.com/news/usmovies.accesshollywood.com/charlie-sheen-reveals-steroid-use-major-league-role?nc

The summary:  Charlie Sheen reveals in a recent Sports Illustrated interview that he did steroids for “six or eight weeks” to prepare for his role in the baseball movie Major League.

The reaction:  Did anybody tell him that it wasn’t real baseball?

In light of everything that’s happened to Sheen in the last six months I suppose this isn’t at all surprising.  The fact that he took steroids indicates that he took his role as Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn just a bit too seriously.  I understand wanting your fastball to look good but that’s what the Hollywood cameras are for.  Besides, you’re a PRETEND pitcher!

North Korea women’s World Cup coach claims team was struck by lightning

The headline:  North Korea blame loss to U.S. on players getting struck by lightning

The link:  http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/blog/dirty-tackle/post/North-Korea-blames-loss-to-U-S-on-players-getti?urn=sow-wp2852

The summary:  Following a 2-0 loss to the United States in their World Cup opener, the North Korea women’s coach told reporters that several members of the team were struck by lightning and affected their performance in the game.

The reaction:  Of all the reasons I’ve heard for a team losing an important game, the team getting struck by lightning has to be a first.

Who knows if this is really true or not.  I feel more comfortable saying that the players on the team are probably at risk for being physically tortured by their government for losing than saying they were struck by lightning.  Plus, as the article mentions, it’s quite ironic that this information only comes out after a World Cup loss.

The headline:  The Latest TSA Outrage: A Cancer Patient Forced to Remove Adult Diaper

The link:  http://news.yahoo.com/s/atlantic/20110627/ts_atlantic/tsaforces95yearoldcancerpatientremoveadultdiaper39287_1

The summary:  During a routine airport security check, a 95 year old cancer patient was pulled aside and forced to remove her adult diaper as part of a security patdown.

The reaction:  C’mon TSA!  Is this really necessary?

I’m not sure what kind of security threat they thought a soiled adult diaper was.  Did they feel this woman was a security threat or a terrorist?  She was in a wheelchair.  Maybe they thought she was sneaking a knife or a box cutter in there?  I have no idea.  I can’t imagine what the TSA was thinking here.

The summary:  First Lady Michelle Obama showed up at a Washington D.C. middle school’s Let’s Move event and was videotaped dancing “The Dougie” and “The Running Man” with students.

The reaction:  The First Lady has a few moves!  Certainly better than her husband’s attempts.

I like Michelle Obama.  I think she’s shown some personality that’s been lacking amongst first ladies recently.  I think her Let’s Move initiative is a worthy cause and I hope she gets out there more and keeps dancing.

How to train like the Navy SEALs

The headline:  Navy SEAL candidates must undergo six months of pure hell

The link:  http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2011/05/04/2011-05-04_navy_seal_candidates_must_undergo_six_months_of_pure_hell.html

The summary:  Training to be a Navy SEAL can be an exercise in non-stop physical training, sleep deprivation and sheer will.

The reaction:  I thought this was an interested read in light of the attention focused on Navy SEAL Team 6 recently.

Navy SEAL training is considered one of the toughest regimens in existence and very few make it to the end.  I doubt I have what it takes to be a SEAL but it might be fun to try!
