The headline:  Sarkozy assaulted at public appearance

The link:

The summary:  French President Nicholas Sarkozy was grabbed at his shoulder and pulled toward a barricade by an unarmed man at a recent public appearance in the French town of Brax.  The president was unharmed and resumed shaking hands with the public shortly thereafter.

The reaction:  Did you see how quickly security had this guy on the ground?  I love Sarkozy’s reaction.  Within about 30 seconds, he’s back to smiling and greeting people again.  Good for him!

The assailant’s motives are still unknown but my guess is he’s just a relatively average French citizen who’s frustrated with something or other.

North Korea women’s World Cup coach claims team was struck by lightning

The headline:  North Korea blame loss to U.S. on players getting struck by lightning

The link:

The summary:  Following a 2-0 loss to the United States in their World Cup opener, the North Korea women’s coach told reporters that several members of the team were struck by lightning and affected their performance in the game.

The reaction:  Of all the reasons I’ve heard for a team losing an important game, the team getting struck by lightning has to be a first.

Who knows if this is really true or not.  I feel more comfortable saying that the players on the team are probably at risk for being physically tortured by their government for losing than saying they were struck by lightning.  Plus, as the article mentions, it’s quite ironic that this information only comes out after a World Cup loss.

The headline:  Bradley says Prosser choked her

The link:

The summary:  Wisconsin State Supreme Court Justice Ann Walsh Bradley claims that fellow Justice David Prosser choked her during a dispute.  Prosser claims that she attacked him first.

The reaction:  Who knows what the truth really is here.  Strip away political affiliations and such and this is nothing more than a he said, she said situation.

I think it’s sad for all involved that high profile elected officials are getting involved in physical altercations with each other but given the political environment and the reputation of politicians in general I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised any more.

Margaret Thatcher: “Sarah Palin is nuts”

The headline:  Margaret Thatcher won’t meet with Sarah Palin during her trip to London, en route to Sudan: report

The link:

The summary:  Margaret Thatcher is rebuffing a meeting request from Sarah Palin star according to an aide who said a meeting would be “belittling” to Thatcher and that “Sarah Palin is nuts”.

The reaction:  This is awesome!  I’m always up for a little female political smackdown!

I don’t blame Thatcher’s take.  I don’t think a meeting with Palin does a whole lot for her.  Palin’s just a big fan and wants the rub.  Thatcher’s maintained a low profile and probably wants to keep it that way.

The headline:  Photos show three dead men at bin Laden raid house

The link:

The summary:  Reuters has released several photos of unidentified men who were killed in the raid that captured Osama bin Laden.

The reaction:  If you’re into that type of thing, the photos are quite graphic but they do give you some insight into how deadly the raid became.  I suppose there will always be a demand for this type of thing.

If you’re interested, you can find the photos here.

White House will not be releasing Osama bin Laden death photo

May 4, 2011 Leave a comment

The headline:  White House won’t release bin Laden death photo

The link:

The summary:  The White House has announced that it will not be releasing Osama bin Laden death photos to the public.

The reaction:  Let the conspiracy theories begin!

I’m not big on viewing gruesome photos but I think the government might have wanted to ease the burden of proof by releasing at least one photo.  Now, you’ll have some people running around claiming he’s not really dead or that this is all a big hoax.  I hope not but I think it’ll be starting shortly.
